Tips for the Junior Goddess
The Story of Self-Proclaimed Goddesses
"Mom, Goddess is on the phone."
"Oh good, she must want to go for a walk."
Who is this Goddess and how did she ever become such? Well, my friend Marjorie is called Goddess. No, she is actually Goddess Genius, because Goddess just wasn't enough! I am GG2.
Once upon a time, a long time ago, my friend and I decided that we needed to get some exercise and to have someone to converse with. We both had three growing boys (all about the same age) and quite frankly, wanted to keep some semblance of sanity. And so, we walked early in the morning before school.
We walked and talked and got things off our chests. We told jokes and stories and generally just enjoyed each other's company. When any cars drove by, we pretended they were the paparazzi chasing after us. I mean really, why wouldn't they be following two 40+ year old mothers around the tiny town of Brookline? It just makes sense, right? Well, once we decided the paparazzi was after us, we decided that our status of mothers was clearly not adequate and so decided that we were Goddesses. Then we decided that we were also very, very smart- hence the Genius part of the name. And so, once we decided on those two names, we rolled with it. To this day, we refer to ourselves as such.
Becoming a Goddess requires a good friend and the willingness to proclaim your awesomeness to the world. That's really all it takes. You don't need to be called Goddess or Genius. You just need to be inspired to find the sparkle within, because that is where the "Godessness" lives.
Here are some tips for aspiring Goddesses:
- Find a friend
- Decide how to spend time together each week (walking, hiking, going for coffee, etc.)
- Boost each other's egos and talk about all the great things you both do each day
- Find an optimistic view on any situation (ex: If it is raining and you are walking, well- you can enjoy a moisturizer on your face...for free!)
- Laugh at yourself and at the world around you
- Stop and smell the roses
