School Supply Shopping
Supply orders need to be in so I can have everything ready before school starts. And since I couldn't wrap my head around the prospect of that before I left the classroom for the summer, I have to face the music now.
Ugh, just when I was doing so well not thinking about plans for the fall.... alas I must just get it done. One thing off my plate. Right? So, I shall gather my thoughts and revisit my last year's order.
Here are just a few of the staples I keep in the classroom:
- Multi-colored folders (a different color for each subject). I want to believe that helps my students stay organized, but the system only works when they actually put things in the folders when asked.
- Assignment notebooks for the students. These can be a good communication tool for parents as well as keeping the kids on task.
- Dry erase markers (can't ever have enough of those). Each student has a white board, eraser, and marker at all times. Those boards are awesome and get used throughout the day!
- "The Week Jr. Magazine." If you haven't seen this magazine- it is awesome! We use it all week for current events assignments, quick writes, opinion writing, etc. It's colorful and full of news stories as well as fun stuff for kids. It's a kid's version of "Newsweek."
- Sharpies- in all colors. I am not sure what the big deal is with Sharpie markers, but the kids are always borrowing mine, so I shall get some extras for them this year. I will also need some new regular markers and perhaps some new colored pencils.
This is not all I have to order, but it is a good start. Now, if I think about how I will organize my room this year for the number and dynamic of students...I bet I will come up with some more ideas about what will make the students successful but will also make my life a little easier. It's a balancing act.
So, if you are having to develop your list for the fall and haven't done so, maybe this will help get the juices flowing. If you have a "go-to" item that you purchase for the kids each year and would like to share- please do.
Happy School Shopping Everyone!
