Further Consideration....

Decision Making Continued

Yesterday, I wrote about the decision to sign your annual teacher's contract. And this morning, I listened to a podcast about teaching careers, or alternative careers, and wanted to add to what I wrote about the decision process.

At this point, I am not sure how to get my point across, so I will use my own feelings and thinking process.

I Love....

  • The kids
  • My colleagues (in my school and in the larger community)
  • That every day is a new day
  • Building relationships with parents
  • Helping peers look at challenges with a new perspective
  • Challenging students to do their best in school and in life
  • Having fun teaching by embracing my own unique teaching style
  • Learning how to be better at my job
I Like....
  • Having a school year schedule (with summers off and breaks during the year)
  • Teaching
  • Planning and discovering new topics to teach

I Need....
  • Health insurance for me and my family
  • A good salary on which to live
  • A Positive work environment

I consider myself a pretty good teacher. I'm not the best and I am not the worst. I know that teaching is a good career. I also know that I really enjoy the team I work with and the community in which I teach. Although I am not interested in teaching in the elementary classroom for the rest of my working years, I know that I want to be working with educators in a different capacity. Lastly, I am sure that as long as I can develop good time management and planning skills, I can make informed decisions about what I want and need.

Although these last few years have been a roller coaster, the important thing for me is that I stay focused on my job of being a professional teacher, colleague, and employee. To know when to follow my heart and make a change when and if that time comes. I guess I could say that "at my age" I want to be focused on a career that is fulfilling and fun and combines both my financial and personal goals.

Piece of cake, right? Well, it's like I said in my last post, you probably want to write it all out or talk it all out with someone before you make the decision to sign or not to sign. Your style will probably be different than mine, but just do you!
