Today's Goals....1st Day of Winter Break

I am sure you know how going into any break works, if you are a teacher. You spend the week before it promising yourself that you will relax, take a break and catch up on things like housework and spend time with family and friends. You will not worry about school work and you will just enjoy. You must enjoy....Then the 1st day comes and you have to force yourself to relax. Unfortunately, I am one of those teachers that worries too much and has to set goals for myself in order to accomplish the aforementioned relaxing week off.

Goal #1: Sleep in on Saturday.

  • This goal I have successfully achieved! I woke up at the usual 5:00 am, but was able to force myself back to sleep until a much more reasonable hour of 7:30 am. Then, I laid there pretending to sleep until the coffee was ready that my husband made and voila- at 9:00 am I got out of bed. That wasn't so hard.

Goal #2: Do not, under any circumstances, look at my work email.

  •     This seems like such a simple goal, yet is a very challenging one to be successful at. I clearly am addicted to checking my email. Maybe because it is on my phone. Maybe I should take it off my phone, so I would not be tempted. Now- that is a more stressful idea than not checking it is. If I took it off my phone, then I couldn't check it when I was not home or at school. Now- that would be just awful!  Needless to say- I must not check my work email. Nobody wants or needs me and it is stupid to check it. So, let's see if I can achieve the goal of not checking my work email until next Monday. Cross your fingers for me people!

Those are the only goals I am setting for myself today. Tomorrow will be another day. So, what are you doing to relax and enjoy today? Got any good advice for the rest of us who clearly have issues relaxing and letting go?
