Foggin' Up & NumbSkullery
I do believe that we have reached Foggin' Up February. It's when teachers and students start to show signs of a little bit of brain fog. They can't see their way very clearly. You know, when the kids start acting extra needy and can't even remember the math facts they have been practicing all year. And teachers can't quite make a clear path for planning, even if they really thought they had a plan. A little bit of panic starts to set in because we know that this is a short month with a vacation built in...and if that fog doesn't lift quickly....we are not going to make it to the end of the year. Some of us might be asking ourselves...What the Fog????????
Then, there's the old NumbSkullery. Yep, it's a word I made up after talking to my sister Liz last night. It's a new form of the term numbskull and is a verb or an adjective... Anyway, she is a science teacher in Arizona and she told me a funny story about her day. She said, " I did a numbskull thing today." To which I replied, "Oh so, you pulled a little numbskullery did you?" ( I come from a long line of word maker-uppers, so she appreciated this term immediately.) Then, she proceeded to tell me how she got up at 4:30am to create some quizzes for her Earth & Space Class and her Biology class, in which she is teaching genetics. She went to school and gave the quiz to her Earth & Space class (she almost gave the wrong one to the class), and proceeded to teach. No big deal. Crisis averted with the almost wrong quiz...at least that is what she thought until she walked out the school doors and realized- with a start- that after giving the right quiz- she taught the wrong lesson. Not only that, but the kids never said a word! The Earth & Space class, just let her teach them all about genetics and DNA and not one of them said anything about it! We laughed and laughed at that one. What a numbskull!
So, if you think that you may be experiencing a little Fog or NumbSkullery- you are not alone! If you have any funny stories to share, have at it. I think we can all use a little laugh these days.
Happy February!
